What is the Southington Police Cadet Program?
Southington Police Cadet Post
The Southington Police Cadet Post (formerly Police Explorers) is a program for those who wish to become active in the community and learn about the law enforcement profession.
The Southington Police Department offers this program to extend education and training to young adults, ages 14 to 20, who have completed the 8th grade and are interested in Law Enforcement.
Participants are expected to maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher in school with no serious disciplinary or criminal history.
The Cadet Post has five areas of emphasis:
1. Career Opportunities
2. Service Learning
3. Leadership Experience
4. Life Skills
5. Character Education
This program is a partnership between the Southington Police Department and the North East Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association (NERLEEA).
All applicants will be subjected to a background investigation before being accepted into the program.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Gain leadership skills and build confidence in your abilities.
Cadets assist with Community Events throughout the year and help with traffic duties during parades and festivals. Cadets may attend the annual Cadet Police Academy in July where they receive a week of paramilitary training by law enforcement agencies. They also have the opportunity to compete in training events such as the SWAT Challenge and Stations Day.
